CH2CHF2 is the chemical formula for 1,1-difluoroethane, also known as R-152a or HFC-152a. It is a hydrofluorocarbon compound. In its pure form, 1,1-difluoroethane is a colorless gas at room temperature and pressure. It has a faint ethereal odor.

This compound is primarily used as an aerosol propellant. Its properties make it a suitable replacement for chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) which have been phased out due to their ozone-depleting potential. 1,1-difluoroethane is considered to have a low ozone depletion potential. It is also used in some refrigerant applications, often in blends.

1,1-difluoroethane is flammable. Its atmospheric lifetime is relatively short compared to some other hydrofluorocarbons, leading to a lower global warming potential (GWP) than many older refrigerants and propellants. It is synthesized through the reaction of vinylidene chloride with hydrogen fluoride. The chemical structure consists of an ethane backbone where two hydrogen atoms on one carbon are replaced by fluorine atoms, and two hydrogen atoms remain on the other carbon.
