CEkonform

CEkonform is a term occasionally used in European market contexts to indicate that a product is in compliance with CE marking requirements. It is not an official certification or status recognized by EU law, and there is no separate or formal “CEkonform” certificate. The CE marking itself signifies that a product conforms to applicable EU directives and regulations and may be affixed only after the manufacturer completes a conformity assessment appropriate to the product category.

Manufacturers determine which directives apply to their product, select relevant harmonized standards, conduct risk assessments, and assemble a technical file. Depending on the product, the assessment may be performed entirely by the manufacturer (self-certification) or involve a Notified Body. The process typically ends with a Declaration of Conformity by the manufacturer and the affixing of the CE mark.

CE marking covers many product groups, including machinery, electrical equipment, toys, medical devices, personal protective equipment, construction products, and more. The specific requirements are defined in EU directives such as the Machinery Directive, Low Voltage Directive, EMC Directive, and others, often implemented through harmonized standards and documentation.

Marketing use of “CEkonform” can mislead if it implies a formal endorsement beyond the CE mark. Consumers and buyers should evaluate the accompanying technical documentation, declaration of conformity, and, where applicable, the identity of any Notified Body.

Etymology: CE stands for Conformité Européenne; konform is German for conforming, hence CEkonform. In practice, the term is informal and not a substitute for CE marking.
