CECAFA

CECAFA, the Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations, is a regional governing body for football in East and Central Africa. It operates under the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and coordinates activities among its member national associations. The federation’s remit includes organizing regional competitions, promoting youth and women's football, developing coaching and refereeing standards, and representing its members in regional and international forums.

CECAFA’s competitions include the CECAFA Cup, the CECAFA Women’s Championship, and various youth events such as the U-20 and U-17 tournaments. The CECAFA Cup is the region’s principal national-team competition and has historically served as a platform for players to showcase talent and for national associations to increase regional competitiveness.

The governance of CECAFA is carried out by a council and general assembly, supported by a secretary-general and statutory committees responsible for competitions, development, referees, and women’s football. The federation works in partnership with CAF and national associations to promote sustainable football development, improve league structures, and expand participation at all levels.

Through its programs, CECAFA aims to enhance the competitiveness of East and Central African national teams, strengthen coaching and refereeing standards, and broaden opportunities for women and youth players.
