CD4029

The CD4029 is a complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuit that functions as a programmable decade or binary counter. It is a versatile digital component commonly used in various electronic applications requiring counting or frequency division.

This counter features a clock input (CLK), a clear input (CLR), and a preset input (PRE). It also has a mode select input (MODE) and a count direction input (UP/DOWN) that allow for its programming. Depending on the logic level at the MODE pin, the CD4029 can operate as either a decade counter (counting from 0 to 9) or a binary counter (counting from 0 to 15). The UP/DOWN input determines whether the counter increments or decrements.

The CD4029 has four parallel outputs (Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4) which represent the current count state. The PRE input allows for loading a specific initial count value into the counter. When the CLR input is activated, the counter is reset to zero. The CD4029 is typically available in a 16-pin dual in-line package (DIP). Its CMOS construction ensures low power consumption and good noise immunity, making it suitable for battery-powered devices and general-purpose digital logic design.
