The CCCV method, an acronym for Constant Current Constant Voltage, is a charging technique widely used for rechargeable batteries, particularly lithium-ion batteries. It represents a two-stage charging process designed to optimize battery lifespan and charging speed.

In the first stage, the Constant Current (CC) phase, the charger supplies a constant current to the battery. This delivers power quickly and efficiently, bringing the battery's voltage up to a predetermined level. The current level is typically set to a fraction of the battery's capacity, often referred to as C-rate, to prevent overheating and excessive stress.

Once the battery reaches this preset voltage threshold, the charging process transitions to the Constant Voltage (CV) phase. In this stage, the charger maintains a constant voltage, and the current gradually decreases as the battery's internal resistance increases with its charge level. This final stage allows the battery to reach its maximum charge capacity without overcharging, which can damage the battery.

The CCCV method is favored because it balances rapid charging with battery health. By controlling both current and voltage, it helps prevent damage from overcurrent or overvoltage conditions, thereby extending the battery's overall service life. This method is fundamental in the design of chargers for a vast array of electronic devices, from smartphones to electric vehicles.
