The cable is typically enclosed in a PVC or plenum-rated jacket, which provides protection against physical damage and fire hazards.

CAT6 cabling is backward compatible with earlier Ethernet standards, including CAT5e and CAT5. This means that CAT6 cables can be used in networks that also include CAT5e or CAT5 cables. However, it is important to note that the performance of the network will be limited by the lowest common denominator, so using CAT6 cables in a CAT5e network will not provide the full benefits of CAT6.

CAT6 cabling is widely used in modern networking infrastructure due to its high performance and reliability. It is also relatively inexpensive compared to other types of cabling, making it a cost-effective solution for many networking applications. However, it is important to ensure that the cabling is properly installed and terminated to achieve the best possible performance.
