CAPsupported

CAPsupported is a designation used in software and systems to indicate compatibility with the Common Alerting Protocol (CAP), an open standard for exchanging public warnings and emergency alerts. A CAPsupported component can ingest CAP-formatted alerts and, in many cases, generate CAP-compliant messages for distribution to alerting channels, such as mass notification networks, mobile apps, and public alert portals.

In practice, CAPsupported is often implemented as a boolean indicator in configuration files, API responses, or system inventories (for example, CAPsupported: true). Its presence signals that the product can participate in interoperable alerting workflows and exchange data with other CAP-enabled systems.

CAP provides a structured representation of alerts, with fields for event, urgency, severity, effective and expiration times, area descriptions, and instructions. By supporting CAP, organizations can improve interoperability across agencies and jurisdictions and enable cross-channel delivery of warnings.

However, CAPsupport does not guarantee full feature parity beyond CAP compliance. Implementations may differ in feed formats, validation, localization, or channel-specific features. Administrators should verify version compatibility and test end-to-end alert delivery when integrating CAP-enabled components.
