CANNTG
CANNTG is a short, six-nucleotide DNA sequence motif found in the promoters and regulatory regions of many genes. The motif is defined by two fixed bases, C and A, followed by two variable positions (N N), and ending with T and G. Because the two middle positions can be any nucleotides, CANNTG represents a family of related sequences, of which several variants are known to influence transcriptional control. In molecular biology, CANNTG is commonly referred to as an E-box in animals or as a broadly defined bHLH-binding site in plants, reflecting the proteins that preferentially recognize it.
The CANNTG motif is primarily recognized by basic helix-loop-helix (bHLH) transcription factors. These proteins bind DNA
In plants, CANNTG elements play a notable role in regulating processes such as pigment biosynthesis, flowering,
Overall, CANNTG serves as a core DNA recognition motif for a family of transcription factors, contributing
