Bylandskapet is a concept in Nordic urban planning that refers to the spatial and perceptual qualities of towns and their surroundings, including built form, public spaces, natural features, and the relationship between dense urban areas and the rural hinterland. It encompasses how streets, blocks, squares, waterfronts, parks, and green corridors shape everyday experience and how topography and climate influence design.

Its components include architecture and layout; street networks; public spaces; mobility infrastructure; landscape elements such as trees, water, and soils; and cultural heritage. It varies with region, climate, and history, producing distinct townscapes from historic cores to newer developments.

In planning practice, the concept informs master plans, urban renewal, and heritage preservation. It emphasizes green infrastructure, climate adaptation, flood management, and accessibility. Challenges include balancing preservation with growth, maintaining legibility, and ensuring resilient, livable spaces.
