Burkina, more commonly referred to as Burkina Faso, is a landlocked country in West Africa. It covers about 274,200 square kilometers and has a population of around 21 million. The capital and largest city is Ouagadougou. The official language is French, while widely spoken local languages include Mooré (Moré) and Dioula (Jula). The name Burkina Faso translates roughly as “land of upright people” or “land of honest people,” reflecting local linguistic roots.
