Bunburyod
Bunburyod is a fictional term that gained prominence through Oscar Wilde's play "The Importance of Being Earnest." In the play, the character Algernon Moncrieff invents a fictitious invalid friend named Bunbury. Algernon uses this invented persona, Bunbury, as a social excuse to escape his tedious obligations in London. He would frequently visit the countryside to "attend" to Bunbury, who is conveniently always in a state of illness or distress. This allows Algernon to pursue his own desires, such as meeting Gwendolen Fairfax.
