BulkBänder

BulkBänder is a term used in the packaging industry to describe a family of binding bands designed for securing bulk goods during transport and storage. The system encompasses bands made from polymers such as polypropylene (PP) and polyester (PET), as well as steel bands for higher-strength applications. BulkBänder are used with compatible tensioning tools, seals, and corner protectors to secure loads on pallets or in bundles.

Materials and variants include polymer bands and steel bands. Polypropylene bands offer light to medium duty, are inexpensive, and have good elongation properties. Manufacturing and performance depend on material choice. PP and PET bands are produced by extrusion and winding, with additives to improve UV resistance, color, or moisture tolerance. Steel bands are manufactured by rolling, tempering, and coating for corrosion protection. Performance is influenced by width, thickness, and the type of seals or end fittings used, as well as the compatible tensioning equipment.

Applications and standards: BulkBänder are used to secure goods on pallets, bundles of lumber, bales, and bulk cargo in warehouses, shipping, and manufacturing. Selection considers load, humidity, temperature, and equipment compatibility. Safety guidelines address tool operation and personal protective equipment, while testing covers tensile strength, elongation, and notch resistance. Environmental aspects: PP and PET are recyclable to varying degrees, and steel is fully recyclable; proper end-of-life handling is advised.
