Bruttoindhold

Bruttoindhold is a labeling term used in Danish, Norwegian and Swedish contexts to denote the gross contents of a packaged item. It refers to the total quantity presented on the package, including the packaging material itself. The concept is the opposite of nettoindhold, which specifies the amount of product inside the package excluding the packaging.

Nettoindhold is the figure most often encountered by consumers when assessing how much usable product they are purchasing. It is the quantity that matters for price-per-unit calculations and for comparing products. Bruttoindhold, by contrast, can be relevant for understanding the overall size of the package and for statistical or regulatory purposes related to packaging.

The two terms are commonly expressed in common units such as grams (g), kilograms (kg), milliliters (ml) or liters (L). Because packaging can add weight or volume beyond the product itself, bruttoindhold and nettoindhold may differ, particularly for heavy or bulky packaging or multi-part packages.
