Broekband
Broekband, also known as trouser strap or gaiter strap, is a device used to secure the bottom of trousers or breeches to the leg, often preventing them from riding up. Historically, broekband was commonly used by men, particularly in military contexts, riding attire, and by laborers whose work required their trousers to stay in place. These straps were typically made of leather, cloth, or elasticated material and were fastened around the calf or just below the knee. The purpose was both practical, ensuring comfort and preventing chafing, and also contributed to a neat and tidy appearance. In some traditional or historical reenactment clothing, broekband continues to be used. Modern usage is rare, though some specialized athletic wear or work clothing might incorporate similar fastening mechanisms. The term itself is of Dutch origin, literally meaning "trouser band."
