Brightnessapply

Brightnessapply is a term used in digital imaging to describe an operation that adjusts the overall brightness of an image or video by altering its pixel intensities. It is commonly implemented as a linear transformation of the form new = clamp(old * mult + add, min, max), where mult is a multiplicative factor and add is an additive offset. Some variants apply gamma correction or operate in a perceptual color space to preserve mid-tones.

In practice, brightnessapply can be performed per color channel or on a luminance channel, and is subject to clipping at the minimum and maximum representable values. Important considerations include color fidelity, potential color shifts, and avoiding banding artifacts. For performance, brightnessapply is often implemented in hardware in video pipelines or as a shader in graphics processing units.
