The brake fluid reservoir is typically a translucent plastic container located in the engine bay, usually near the master cylinder. It has minimum and maximum markings on its side. The brake fluid level should always be between these two marks. If the level is too low, it can indicate a leak in the brake system, or that the brake pads have worn down significantly. In either case, it compromises braking performance and requires immediate attention.

A low brake fluid level can lead to air entering the brake lines, resulting in a spongy brake pedal and a reduced ability to stop the vehicle. Conversely, overfilling the reservoir is also not recommended, as it can lead to pressure buildup and potential damage to the system.
