Bratschenbögen

Bratschenbögen, also known as viola da gamba bows, are specialized bows designed for use with the viola da gamba, a string instrument of the viol family. Unlike modern violin bows, which are made primarily of pernambuco wood, traditional Bratschenbögen often incorporate a more flexible and resilient construction to accommodate the unique playing techniques of the viola da gamba.

The bow itself consists of several key components: the stick, frog, hair, and screw. The stick is typically made from a combination of materials, including pernambuco, boxwood, or even ebony, depending on historical and regional preferences. The frog, the weighted end of the bow, is often crafted from wood, bone, or ivory and may feature intricate carvings or inlays.
