Brandenburgi

Brandenburgi is the Estonian name for the German federal state of Brandenburg, located in northeastern Germany. It surrounds but does not include the city-state of Berlin. The state’s capital is Potsdam. Brandenburg lies largely on the North German Plain and features numerous lakes and forests. The Oder River marks part of the eastern border with Poland.

Historically, the region derives its name from the medieval Margraviate of Brandenburg, established in the 12th century, which became the core of the later Kingdom of Prussia. It remained an important political and territorial unit within the German Empire and, after World War II, was part of East Germany. Following German reunification in 1990, Brandenburg became one of the 16 federal states of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Geography and people: The state covers a substantial area and has a population in the low millions. The landscape includes flat plains, extensive woodland, and many lakes, with the Spreewald biosphere reserve in the southeast. The Lusatian Neisse forms part of the border with Poland to the east.
