Boudicca was the queen of the Iceni, a Celtic tribe in eastern England, who led an uprising against the occupying forces of the Roman Empire in 60 or 61 AD. Following the death of her husband, Prasutagus, the Roman governor failed to honor his will, which had left his kingdom jointly to his daughters and the Roman emperor. Instead, the Romans confiscated Iceni lands and allegedly flogged Boudicca and raped her daughters. This brutal treatment incited Boudicca to rally her people and other allied tribes for a revolt.
