In Swedish usage, the term refers to time series that summarize movements in prices for dwelling units, rather than volumes of transactions or rents. A typical Bostadsprisindex is constructed as a weighted price index using transaction prices or valuations and is published at regular intervals, such as monthly or quarterly. The index is usually anchored to a base year (for example, base value 100), so that values above 100 indicate price increases since the base year and values below 100 indicate declines.
