Boschloos

Boschloos is a municipality and village in the fictional region of Westmark, situated along the Lenne River. It covers an area of about 32 square kilometers and has a population of roughly 5,400 residents.

The name Boschloos derives from the Dutch roots bos (forest) and loos (clearing or meadow), reflecting the area’s woodland clearing history that shaped its early settlements.

The settlement traces back to the medieval era, with the first documentary mention in 1275. It developed through agriculture and small crafts, gaining municipal rights in the 19th century and expanding with railway access in the early 1900s.

Boschloos occupies rolling farmland south of Westmark city, with the Lenne River forming part of its northern boundary. The climate is temperate, with mild winters and moderate summers, and rainfall spread fairly evenly throughout the year.

The municipality is governed by a directly elected mayor and a 15-member council. The economy centers on agriculture, agribusiness, local services, and light manufacturing, with many residents commuting to nearby urban areas.

Key landmarks include St. Martin’s Church (a late-Gothic structure), a 19th-century windmill, and a protected wetland reserve that supports birdlife. The annual harvest festival and weekly markets are important local events.
