Bosat
Bosat, also known as Bosat-class submarine, is a class of diesel-electric submarines developed for the Iranian Navy. These submarines are designed for coastal defense and intelligence gathering operations. The first submarine of this class was commissioned in 1996. Bosat-class submarines are relatively small compared to larger submarine classes, making them suitable for operating in the shallow waters of the Persian Gulf. They are equipped with conventional torpedoes for offensive capabilities. The design is believed to be based on older Chinese submarine designs, specifically the Type 033 Romeo-class, which Iran acquired in the past. Iran has produced several units of the Bosat class, reflecting its commitment to expanding its naval power. While details regarding their specific operational capabilities and exact numbers in service are not publicly disclosed, they represent a significant component of Iran's submarine force. Their primary role is to project power and deter potential adversaries within Iran's territorial waters and the surrounding maritime areas. The continued development and production of these submarines suggest an ongoing effort to modernize and enhance the Iranian Navy's submarine fleet.
