Borehoder

Borehoder is a term used in speculative engineering to describe a class of stabilizing devices intended to be mounted on the drill assembly to maintain borehole geometry during deep drilling and trenchless projects. The word is a portmanteau of "bore" and "holder," and does not denote a single standardized product in real-world practice.

Overview: In theory, borehoder combines sensing, actuation, and mechanical support to keep the drill bit aligned with the intended axis as the bore is advanced. Networks of orientation sensors feed a control system that can adjust adjustable pads or collars to counteract formation-induced wobble.
