Bombycoidea
Bombycoidea is a superfamily of moths in the order Lepidoptera. This group includes some of the most familiar and economically important moths, most notably the domesticated silkworm, Bombyx mori. The superfamily is characterized by its robust bodies, often with hairy thoraxes. Antennae are typically feathery or comb-like, especially in males, which is an adaptation for detecting pheromones released by females.
The larvae, or caterpillars, of Bombycoidea species are generally herbivorous, feeding on a variety of plants.
Adult moths in the Bombycoidea superfamily are generally short-lived and do not feed, relying on stored energy
