Bolonha

Bolonha is a town situated in the La Libertad region of northern Peru. The settlement lies approximately 25 kilometres southeast of the provincial capital, Trujillo, and is part of the Laredo district within the Trujillo province. At an elevation of about 730 metres above sea level, Bolonha enjoys a semi‑arid climate with modest rainfall during the summer months. The population is estimated at around 7,500 residents according to the most recent census, reflecting modest growth driven largely by local economic activities.

The local economy is predominantly based on agriculture, with crops such as maize, beans and various fruits cultivated in the surrounding valleys. In addition, salt extraction from nearby saline flats contributes to the town’s industry, and there are small-scale manufacturing operations that produce textiles and food products for the regional market. The proximity of the Pan‑American Highway provides a vital transport link for goods produced in Bolonha, and the town also benefits from rail connections that serve the larger Trujillo area.

Bolonha is home to several historic and cultural sites, including a colonial‑era church that dates back to the 18th century and a modest museum dedicated to regional agricultural practices. The town is known for its annual festival, which celebrates local traditions with music, dance and artisanal exhibitions. The community maintains active participation in regional agricultural cooperatives and participates in national initiatives aimed at improving rural development and sustainable land use.
