Bohrs

Bohrs is a Danish surname, most prominently associated with a family of several leading scientists in the late 19th and 20th centuries. The name appears in reference to individuals who contributed to physiology, mathematics, and physics, among other fields.

Christian Bohr (1831–1911) was a Danish physician and professor of physiology. He was the father of Niels Bohr and Harald Bohr and played a significant role in Danish medical education and research.

Niels Bohr (1885–1962) was a Danish physicist who helped establish quantum theory and formulated the Bohr model of the atom in 1913. He received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1922 and founded the Institute for Theoretical Physics in Copenhagen, a center for early quantum research.

Harald Bohr (1887–1951) was Niels Bohr’s brother, a mathematician and athlete. His work in analysis and number theory, including contributions to the theory of almost periodic functions, made notable impacts on Danish mathematics and related fields.

Aage N. Bohr (1922–2009) was Niels Bohr’s son and a physicist who shared the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1975 with Ben R. Mottelson and James Rainwater for the development of the nuclear collective model, describing how nucleons move within the atomic nucleus.

The Bohrs surname is therefore closely linked with major advances in physics and mathematics, particularly within Danish scientific history.
