Blóðsýni

Blóðsýni, also known as Bloodbath, is a fictional event in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth legendarium. It refers to a catastrophic event caused by the wartime sorcery of the Dark Lord Morgoth in the First Age. The sorcery unleashed a massive quantity of blood, which arose from the lands of Beleriand, deluging the entire region.

According to Tolkien's work, the blood was the result of Morgoth's magical warfare against the Elves, Noldorin and Sindarin. The Noldor, under the leadership of Fëanor's son Maedhros, had formed an alliance with the Easterlings and the giant sserpents against Morgoth. Morgoth, however, managed to defeat them with his dark sorcery. As a result, a large area of the land was drenched in blood, contaminating it and making it unusable for years.

This event took place during the Nirnaeth Arnoediad in the first age of Middle-earth. The battle was fought between the armies of Morgoth and the Noldor, Sindar, and Edain. The loss of the battle was catastrophic for the armies of the West, and it marked a turning point in the struggle against Morgoth. The consequences of Blóðsýni were a significant weakening of the opposing forces, giving Morgoth a solid advantage over his enemies. The aftermath of the event led to a withdrawal of the combined forces of High King Turgon and his allies, who retreated to their stronghold of Gondolin, where they established a stronghold against the enemy.

The event is mentioned in several of Tolkien's works, including The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales of Númenor and Middle-earth.
