Nirnaeth
Nirnaeth is a term derived from the Welsh language meaning “battle.” In modern usage, it is most notably associated with the epic conflict known as the Nirnaeth Arwyr, or in English the Battle of the Free Peoples, which is a key event in J. R. R. Tolkien’s legendarium. The battle is set during the Third Age of Middle‑Earth, occurring on the plains east of Forochel, a region that later becomes the kingdom of Eldamar. It is fought by a coalition of Elf‑folk and Men against the forces of the Dark Lord’s lieutenant, the demon‑touched ranger Eöl, and the orc armies led by the rebel orc‑king, Orodreth.
