Blisterkobber

Blisterkobber is a form of copper produced through a specific refining process. It is typically the result of pyrometallurgical smelting, where copper ore is heated to high temperatures in a furnace. This process separates the copper from impurities, but the resulting metal still contains a significant amount of dissolved oxygen. When blister copper is cooled, this trapped oxygen is released, causing the surface to bubble or "blister," hence its name.

The typical purity of blister copper is around 98-99%. While this is a significant improvement over raw ore, it is not pure enough for most electrical or industrial applications. Further refining, usually through an electrolytic process, is required to achieve the high purity copper (often 99.99% or higher) needed for conductivity in wires, electronics, and other sensitive equipment. Blister copper serves as an intermediate product in the production of refined copper. Its production is a crucial step in the overall copper smelting and refining cycle, bridging the gap between raw ore concentrate and the final high-purity metal.
