Blackstone

Blackstone Inc., commonly referred to as Blackstone, is an American multinational investment company that specializes in private equity, real estate, credit, and other alternative assets. It was founded in 1985 by Stephen A. Schwarzman and Peter G. Peterson and is headquartered in New York City. The firm operates globally and, as one of the world’s largest alternative asset managers, raises and manages capital across a range of strategies. It went public in 2007, and in 2019 restructured as Blackstone Inc., continuing to be a leading force in private markets.

The Blackstone River is a 48-mile waterway in New England, flowing from central Massachusetts into Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. It played a pivotal role in the region’s early industrialization, powering mills that shaped the area’s economy; the adjacent Blackstone Canal linked Worcester to Providence in the 19th century.

Blackstone also refers to various places in the United States, including a town in Massachusetts and several communities in other states. The name appears in historical and contemporary contexts as a surname and is associated with individuals such as William Blackstone (1723–1780), an English jurist whose Commentaries on the Laws of England influenced legal thought in Britain and the American colonies.
