Blackfan
Blackfan is a rare genetic disorder characterized by a deficiency in red blood cell production, a condition known as anemia. The specific type of anemia is often aplastic or hypoplastic, meaning the bone marrow does not produce enough red blood cells. This typically becomes apparent in infancy, though milder forms can be diagnosed later. Common symptoms include pallor, fatigue, poor feeding, and a rapid heartbeat. Individuals with Blackfan-Anemia are also at an increased risk for certain physical abnormalities, such as those affecting the head, face, hands, and arms.
The cause of Blackfan-Anemia is mutations in specific genes, most commonly those involved in ribosomal biogenesis,
Treatment for Blackfan-Anemia primarily involves corticosteroid therapy, which often stimulates red blood cell production. For some
