Biwar

Biwar is a region located in the northwestern part of Mozambique. It is a district in the Niassa Province, which is one of the 11 provinces of Mozambique. The district covers an area of approximately 6,915 square kilometers, making it one of the largest districts in the province.

Geographically, Biwar is a mountainous region, with the highest peak reaching an altitude of 1,250 meters above sea level. The district is bounded by the Mulanje Mountains to the west, the Songwe River to the north, and the Niassa National Reserve to the east. The climate is characterized by a dry season from May to October, and a wet season from November to April.

The population of Biwar is predominantly rural and agrarian. The main economic activity is subsistence farming, with crops such as maize, cassava, and sweet potatoes being the staple crops. Livestock farming is also an important economic activity, with cattle, goats, and sheep being the main species raised.

Biwar is also home to a variety of wildlife, including elephants, lions, and antelopes. The district is part of the Niassa Nature Reserve, which is one of the largest protected areas in Mozambique. The reserve provides an important habitat for the conservation of wildlife and supports biodiversity conservation efforts in the region.

Tourism is a growing sector in Biwar, with visitors attracted to the district's natural beauty and recreational activities such as hiking and birdwatching. However, the district still faces challenges related to poverty, poor infrastructure, and lack of access to basic services such as healthcare and education.
