Bitumkalvot

Bitumkalvot, often translated as bitumen membranes or asphalt membranes, are waterproofing materials widely used in construction. They are typically composed of a base material, such as polyester or fiberglass, which is then coated with bitumen. This bitumen, a sticky, black, viscous liquid or semi-solid form of petroleum, provides the primary waterproofing barrier.

The manufacturing process involves saturating the base with bitumen and often modifying it with polymers like APP (atactic polypropylene) or SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene) to enhance flexibility, durability, and resistance to temperature fluctuations. These modifications are crucial for the long-term performance of the membranes, especially in climates with significant temperature variations.

Bitumkalvot are applied in various construction applications, most notably for roofing and foundation waterproofing. For roofing, they are typically installed in multiple layers, often using a torch-on method where heat is applied to melt the bitumen and adhere the membrane to the substrate. This creates a seamless, waterproof surface that protects the building from water ingress. In foundation waterproofing, they are used to prevent moisture from penetrating the underground structure, protecting against dampness and potential structural damage. The membranes offer excellent resistance to water pressure and can bridge small cracks that may develop in the building structure over time. Their durability and proven performance have made them a standard choice in the construction industry for essential waterproofing needs.
