Biståndssektor

Biståndssektor refers to the sector of Swedish society dedicated to international development cooperation and humanitarian aid. This encompasses a wide range of organizations, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and international bodies that work towards poverty reduction, sustainable development, and disaster relief in developing countries. The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) is the primary governmental body responsible for administering and allocating much of Sweden's development assistance. Numerous Swedish NGOs also play a crucial role, often focusing on specific thematic areas or geographical regions, and receiving significant funding through Sida and private donations.

The work within the biståndssektor is guided by national policies and international agreements, such as the UN's Sustainable Development Goals. Key areas of focus often include education, health, democracy, human rights, climate change adaptation, and economic development. The sector is characterized by a complex network of actors, partnerships, and funding mechanisms, aiming to achieve measurable and sustainable impact in partner countries.
