Bioüzemanyagkeverékek, or biofuel blends, refer to mixtures of conventional fossil fuels and biofuels. These blends are used to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels and decrease greenhouse gas emissions in the transportation sector. The most common biofuels used in blends are ethanol and biodiesel. Ethanol, typically derived from sources like corn, sugarcane, or wheat, is often blended with gasoline. Common blends include E10 (10% ethanol, 90% gasoline) and E85 (85% ethanol, 15% gasoline). E10 is widely used in many countries and is generally compatible with most modern gasoline engines. E85 requires a flexible-fuel vehicle (FFV) capable of running on higher ethanol concentrations.

Biodiesel, produced from vegetable oils or animal fats, is blended with petroleum diesel. B20 (20% biodiesel, 80% diesel) is a popular blend that can be used in many diesel engines with minimal or no modification. Higher blends of biodiesel may require specific engine or fuel system considerations. The use of bioüzemanyagkeverékek aims to leverage the existing fuel infrastructure and vehicle fleet while introducing renewable fuel components. The environmental benefits of these blends are primarily related to reduced carbon monoxide and particulate matter emissions, and potentially lower net greenhouse gas emissions depending on the feedstock and production process. However, concerns exist regarding land use change, food versus fuel debates, and the overall lifecycle emissions associated with biofuel production.
