Bionis

Bionis is a colossal living landmass and one of the two titanic bodies that form the world in the Xenoblade Chronicles video game series. It exists alongside Mekonis, another gigantic creature, and together they provide the surface on which various civilizations reside. The Bionis is home to multiple species, including the humanoid Homs, as well as High Entia and Nopon.

In the game's lore, both Bionis and Mekonis are ancient, sentient beings whose bodies host ecosystems, cities, and ruins. The Bionis features a wide range of environments, from plains and forests to mountains and ruins, with the ancient capital Alcamoth recognized as a major landmark on its surface.

Historically, the two Titans are involved in a long-standing conflict. Mekonis is associated with Mechon, a hostile mechanical faction that invades Bionis, triggering war with its inhabitants. This clash between the inhabitants of Bionis and the Mechon from Mekonis serves as a central premise for much of the early narrative.

As a setting, Bionis underpins the Xenoblade Chronicles experience by shaping travel, exploration, and gameplay. The concept of a living world—its interconnected ecosystems, ruins, and cities—defines the atmosphere and lore of the series, and it is revisited and expanded upon in subsequent installments.
