Bhagirath
Bhagirath is a significant figure in Hindu mythology, primarily known for his penance that brought the sacred river Ganges to Earth. He was a descendant of the Ikshvaku dynasty and the great-grandson of the virtuous King Sagara. According to the Puranas and other Hindu scriptures, Bhagirath's ancestors were cursed by the sage Kapila, leading to their souls being unable to find peace. Bhagirath, determined to redeem his lineage and purify their souls, embarked on a severe ascetic practice.
