Berserkjahraun
Berserkjahraun is a geothermal area located in the northern highlands of Iceland, near the Askja volcanic system. The name "Berserkjahraun" translates to "Berserker Lava Field" and is steeped in local folklore. Legend has it that a group of berserkers, fearsome Norse warriors, were ambushed and killed in this area during the Viking age. Their bodies are said to be buried beneath the rough, uneven lava.
