Berkeleyalgoritmus

Berkeleyalgoritmus is a distributed clock synchronization algorithm. It was developed at the University of California, Berkeley. The algorithm aims to maintain a consistent time across a group of computers in a network.

The core idea of the Berkeleyalgoritmus is that a designated master computer periodically polls the slave computers for their current time. The master then calculates the average of these times, along with its own time. It takes into account the round-trip delay of the time requests. Based on this average, the master sends adjustments to the slaves, telling them how much to speed up or slow down their clocks. This approach differs from other algorithms like the Network Time Protocol (NTP) which relies on external time servers.

The Berkeleyalgoritmus is particularly useful in environments where there isn't a reliable external time source available or when internal consistency is prioritized. It's a relatively simple algorithm to implement. However, it relies on the assumption that the master computer's clock is reasonably accurate, or at least that its drift is predictable. If the master clock has significant drift, the synchronization of the entire group can be affected. The algorithm can also be susceptible to faulty clocks among the slave nodes.
