Benetzungszustand

Benetzungszustand refers to the degree to which a liquid spreads over a solid surface. It is a fundamental concept in surface science and is influenced by the balance of forces between the liquid molecules themselves and the forces between the liquid and solid molecules.

The wetting process can be quantified by the contact angle, which is the angle formed at the point where a liquid interface meets a solid surface. A small contact angle (close to 0 degrees) indicates good wetting, meaning the liquid spreads out extensively on the surface. Conversely, a large contact angle (closer to 180 degrees) signifies poor wetting, where the liquid beads up and does not spread significantly.
