Belgianruled

Belgianruled is a term that refers to the historical period when Belgium was under the rule of another nation. This concept encompasses several distinct periods of foreign domination.

From the late 18th century until the Belgian Revolution in 1830, the territory that now constitutes Belgium was largely under Austrian or French control. Following the Napoleonic Wars, the Congress of Vienna united the Southern Netherlands (present-day Belgium) with the Northern Netherlands to form the United Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1815. This union was short-lived, as the Belgians revolted and gained independence in 1830.

The term can also be interpreted more broadly to include the period when Belgium was a German protectorate during World War I and the subsequent German occupation during World War II. In both instances, Belgium experienced significant foreign military and administrative control. While Belgium is now a sovereign nation, the historical memory of these periods of foreign rule has shaped its national identity and foreign policy. The complexities of its geopolitical position have historically placed it under the influence or direct control of larger European powers.
