Beleggstesting

Beleggstesting refers to the systematic evaluation of a coating applied to a substrate to determine whether it meets specified requirements. It encompasses physical, chemical, and performance characteristics of the coating, such as thickness, adhesion, porosity, hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance, chemical resistance, and surface appearance. The tests are used across industries including metal finishing, automotive, aerospace, electronics, and construction to verify coating quality and predict service life.

Common nondestructive methods include thickness measurement by magnetic or eddy-current methods, optical profilometry, and spectroscopic ellipsometry. Adhesion can be assessed by pull-off tests (ISO 4624), cross-cut tests (ISO 2409/ASTM D3359), and scratch tests. Porosity and defect inspection may use immersion tests, acoustic microscopy, or microscopy. Mechanical properties such as hardness can be assessed by pencil hardness tests. Destructive tests include bending, scratch under load, corrosion testing (salt spray) and wear testing (Taber abrasion).

Testing is guided by standards from ISO, ASTM, EN, DIN. A testing plan defines sample preparation, environmental conditioning (temperature, humidity, UV exposure), aging, and acceptance criteria. Coatings may be specified by thickness (measured with appropriate method), adhesion strength, and performance under environmental exposure. Statistical sampling and measurement uncertainty are considered for quality control.

The results are documented in test reports, including equipment, methods, conditions, numerical results, pass/fail judgments, and traceability to standards.
