Batholithok

Batholithok is a term used in geology to describe a large, irregular mass of intrusive igneous rock, such as granite, that has formed deep within the Earth's crust. These formations are typically exposed at the surface only after significant erosion has worn away the overlying rock layers. Batholiths are immense structures, often spanning hundreds or even thousands of square kilometers in area, and can extend many kilometers downwards. Their formation involves the slow cooling and solidification of molten rock, or magma, that has ascended from the Earth's mantle. As the magma cools, it crystallizes into various igneous minerals. The process of batholith formation is incredibly slow, often taking millions of years. The surrounding rock, known as country rock, can be altered by the heat and pressure of the intruding magma, a process called contact metamorphism. Geologists study batholiths to understand the history of magmatic activity and the deep processes occurring within the Earth's crust. Examples of exposed batholiths can be found in mountain ranges around the world, where their resistant rock has often formed prominent peaks and landforms.
