Basebandverkeer

Basebandverkeer refers to the transmission of signals over a communication channel without modulation. In a baseband system, the data is sent directly in its original frequency range, as opposed to passband transmission where the data is modulated onto a carrier wave. This means the signal occupies the lower part of the frequency spectrum, often starting from zero Hertz. Baseband transmission is typically used in wired communication systems like Ethernet local area networks (LANs) and older telephone lines. It is characterized by its simplicity and efficiency for short to medium distances. However, baseband signals are susceptible to noise and attenuation over longer distances, limiting their effective range without amplification or regeneration. The bandwidth of the baseband signal directly determines the data rate. In digital communication, baseband signals are often represented as a series of pulses. The absence of modulation simplifies the hardware requirements, making baseband systems less complex and less expensive to implement compared to modulated systems, especially for applications where high bandwidth and long-distance transmission are not primary concerns.
