Barnu

Barnu is a small rural village in the uplands of Valara, a region in the fictional country of Eldoria. Nestled beside the River Dri, it lies at an elevation around 320 meters and is surrounded by mixed forests and terraced fields. The village has a compact center and a ring of surrounding farmsteads that extend into rural countryside.

Historical records mention Barnu as early as the 11th century, when it formed around a water mill and a parish church. The settlement grew slowly through agriculture and craft trades. In the 19th and 20th centuries, improvements in irrigation and road links connected Barnu with nearby towns, promoting modest growth.

Today Barnu sustains an agriculture-based economy, with cereals, potatoes, and berries as main crops. Small-scale crafts, including weaving and woodwork, supplement income. The population is around 2,400 to 2,800 residents, with a majority of families and a growing number of commuters to larger towns.

Administratively, Barnu is part of the Eldorian municipal district and is governed by a village council and a mayor. The community hosts an annual harvest festival, a weekly market, and traditional music evenings that emphasize Barnuan folk songs and dances.

Landmarks and institutions include a 15th-century parish church, a restored windmill, and a small local history museum. A primary school serves the village and surrounding hamlets; secondary education is pursued in the nearby town.
