Bandenergie, also known as band energy, refers to the energy associated with the electron states within a specific energy band in a crystalline solid. It is a fundamental concept in solid-state physics and materials science, playing a crucial role in understanding the electrical, optical, and thermal properties of materials.

In the context of semiconductors and metals, electrons occupy energy bands formed due to the overlap of atomic orbitals in a lattice. The valence band contains electrons that are usually bound to atoms, while the conduction band consists of free or loosely bound electrons capable of conducting electricity. The energy difference between these bands, known as the band gap, determines whether a material is a conductor, insulator, or semiconductor.

Band energy levels are typically depicted in band structures, which illustrate the allowed energy levels of electrons as a function of their momentum within the crystal lattice. Electrons can move within a band when they gain energy, for example, through thermal excitation or photon absorption, enabling electrical conduction.
