Balsaholz
Balsaholz is a lightweight, porous wood harvested from the balsa tree (Ochroma pyramidale). Native to tropical regions of Central and South America, the balsa tree grows rapidly and is known for its exceptionally low density. The wood itself is a pale cream to light brown color and has a fine, straight grain. Its cellular structure is characterized by large air pockets, which contribute significantly to its buoyancy and insulating properties. These properties make balsaholz a highly sought-after material for various applications.
The primary use of balsaholz is in model building, including model airplanes, boats, and architectural models.
