BalmatPaccard refers to the collaboration between Jacques Balmat and Michel-Gabriel Paccard, two early climbers credited with the first confirmed ascent of Mont Blanc in the French Alps. The partnership is regarded as a landmark in the history of mountaineering, illustrating the emerging model of a local guide working with a scientist or patron.

Jacques Balmat was a local chasseur and guide from Chamonix, known for his practical mountaineering skills. Michel-Gabriel Paccard was a physician from the same region, whose interest in natural history and alpine exploration complemented Balmat’s on-the-ground experience. Their joint effort was conducted under the sponsorship and scientific interest of Horace-Bénédict de Saussure, a prominent figure in the early study of the Alps.
