Ballongidilataatioon
Ballongidilataatio, also known as balloon dilatation or balloon angioplasty, is a minimally invasive medical procedure used to widen narrowed or blocked blood vessels. It is most commonly performed on coronary arteries to treat coronary artery disease, but can also be used in other arteries throughout the body. The procedure involves inserting a thin, flexible tube called a catheter into a blood vessel, usually in the arm or groin. This catheter is then guided to the site of the blockage. Once in position, a small, deflated balloon attached to the end of the catheter is inflated. The inflated balloon compresses the plaque against the artery wall, widening the vessel and restoring blood flow. After the artery is dilated, the balloon is deflated and removed along with the catheter. Often, a stent, a small mesh tube, is deployed at the site of the blockage to help keep the artery open. This procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia and requires a short recovery period. Potential risks include bleeding at the insertion site, blood clots, and damage to the blood vessel.
