Bacchants
Bacchants, often called Bacchantes in Latin sources, are the female devotees of the Greek god Dionysus (Bacchus). The name derives from the Greek Bakchantai, linked to Bakchos, a name for the god, and to the ritual frenzy bakchēin associated with his cult. In classical art and literature they are typically depicted as ecstatic worshippers who enter trance-like states through wine, music, and dance.
